Questions About Counselling
What Can Counselling Help With?
Counselling can support concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, anger, trauma, relationships, fatherhood, identity, grief, substance use and major life changes. You do not need to know exactly what the issue is before starting.
What Happens in the First Appointment?
Your therapist will take time to understand what has been happening, what brought you to counselling and what you would like to change. You can ask questions, discuss your goals and decide together what the next steps may look like.
Do I Need to Know What I Want to Talk About?
No. Many people begin counselling knowing that something feels wrong without being able to explain it clearly. Your therapist can help you organize what is happening and identify where to begin.
Is Counselling Confidential?
Yes. Counselling is confidential within the limits established by professional standards and applicable law. Your therapist will explain confidentiality and any required exceptions at the beginning of your work together.
Is Counselling Available Virtually?
Yes. MFM provides confidential virtual counselling across Alberta. You must be physically located in Alberta during the appointment and have access to a private place where you can speak openly.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The number of sessions depends on your concerns, goals and circumstances. Some people seek short-term support for a specific issue, while others benefit from working together over a longer period.
What If I Do Not Know Which Therapist to Choose?
You can book a free consultation with MFM’s Wellness Specialist. Alyssa will learn more about what you are looking for, explain your options and help connect you with a therapist who may be a good fit.

Coverage depends on your insurance plan and the professional designation of your therapist. We recommend confirming your coverage directly with your insurance provider before booking.
You Don’t Need to Have It Figured Out
