What Mental Health Can Look Like

It Doesn’t Always Look Like a Crisis.

Mental health challenges can show up in your work, relationships, physical health and the way you respond to everyday pressure.

You do not have to wait until everything falls apart before asking for support.

  • Feeling constantly stressed, tense or overwhelmed
  • Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or other people
  • Struggling with sleep, focus or motivation
  • Becoming more irritable, reactive or withdrawn
  • Using substances or distractions to cope
  • Carrying the effects of trauma or difficult experiences
  • Feeling pressure to handle everything on your own
  • Experiencing conflict in your relationship or family
  • Questioning your confidence, direction or identity
  • Having difficulty adjusting to change, loss or fatherhood
  • Feeling exhausted from work, caregiving or responsibility

If something feels different, harder or increasingly difficult to manage, that is enough reason to start a conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to some of the most common questions about beginning mental health support with MFM.

Who does MFM work with?

MFM provides mental health support for adult men, couples, children and teens. Ages and appointment formats vary by practitioner and service.

Are appointments virtual?

Adult counselling is available virtually across Alberta. Some child and teen services and psychoeducational assessments are provided in person in Cochrane.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required. You can book directly with one of our therapists or speak with our Wellness Specialist if you would like help deciding where to start.

How do I choose a therapist?

Review each therapist’s profile and areas of focus, or book a complimentary consultation with Alyssa. She can help connect you with a practitioner whose experience fits your needs.

Does MFM offer couples therapy?

Yes. Our couples therapists support communication, conflict, trust, separation, co-parenting and other changes affecting relationships and families.

What are psychoeducational assessments?

Psychoeducational assessments help identify learning disabilities, ADHD, giftedness and factors affecting learning or behaviour. MFM offers assessments for ages 7–17 in Cochrane.

Is therapy covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on your insurance plan and the practitioner’s professional designation. We recommend confirming your coverage with your insurance provider before booking.

What happens in the first appointment?

Your first appointment is a conversation about what is happening, what you would like support with and what a useful way forward could look like. You do not need to arrive with everything figured out.

Need Immediate Help?

MFM is not an emergency or crisis-response service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. In Canada, call or text 988 for immediate suicide crisis support.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

Book directly with a therapist or start with a complimentary consultation if you are not sure which service fits.
