Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About Relationship Counselling

How Do We Know If Relationship Counselling Is Right for Us?

Relationship counselling may be helpful when the same conflicts keep returning, communication feels strained, trust has been affected or you feel increasingly disconnected. You do not need to wait until the relationship is in crisis to begin.

Do Both Partners Need to Attend?

Relationship counselling is generally most effective when both partners participate. Your therapist can discuss attendance, individual check-ins and any exceptions with you before or during the therapeutic process.

Can Relationship Counselling Help Us Rebuild Trust?

Yes. Counselling can help partners understand what damaged trust, communicate about its impact and establish practical steps toward greater honesty, safety and reliability. Rebuilding trust takes time and requires participation from both partners.

Can We Attend If We Are Considering Separation?

Yes. Relationship counselling can provide a structured place to explore the relationship, clarify what each partner wants and make thoughtful decisions. It can also support respectful separation and co-parenting when remaining together is not the chosen path.

Is Relationship Counselling Available Virtually?

Yes. MFM offers virtual relationship counselling across Alberta. Both partners need to be located in Alberta during the appointment and should join from a private space where they can speak openly.

What If We Are Unsure Which Therapist to Choose?

You can book a free consultation with MFM’s Wellness Specialist. Alyssa will learn more about what you are navigating, explain your options and help connect you with the therapist who may be the best fit.

Is Relationship Counselling Covered by Insurance?

Coverage depends on your insurance plan and the professional designation of your therapist. We recommend confirming your coverage directly with your insurance provider before booking.
